Madison…Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) released the following statements concerning the State Highway Program Audit by the Legislative Audit Bureau of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

“The legislative audit is yet another independent report that illustrates construction delays are driving up costs unnecessarily, our road conditions are only getting worse and a long-term solution is needed. It’s clear Wisconsin is trying to do too much with too little and taxpayers are not getting their money’s worth.

“Assembly Republicans are advocating for a common sense solution that meets the criteria set by Governor Walker. Our budget framework calls for at least $300 million in tax relief and reforms coupled with transportation savings, reforms and a corresponding increase in transportation revenue in order to begin addressing the long-term solvency of the transportation fund. The audit recommendations should be part of this solution.

“Governor Walker and his administration deserve credit for working hard to minimize budget inefficiencies. In the last six years, the DOT has saved taxpayers more than $1.5 billion. We look forward to working with the governor on a budget plan that focuses on growing the savings, implementing additional reforms and providing tax relief while addressing the transportation fund crisis.”

The 63rd Assembly District includes the communities of Rochester, Burlington, Town of Burlington, Yorkville, Dover, Union Grove, Mount Pleasant, Sturtevant.
