Ald. Joe Dudzik.

Ald. Joe Dudzik.

I’m very sad to learn of the passing of my friend and colleague Alderman Joe Dudzik. It was my honor to serve with Joe, not just on the Common Council, but on numerous South Side institutions including the South Side Business Club, the Milwaukee Society of the Polish National Alliance and Polish Fest. We worked very closely on important projects like Historic U.S. 41 and with the neighborhood associations along that street.

As two former city employees who then served on the Common Council, Joe was like a mentor to me in the area of public works. I always valued the insight he was able to offer into such matters, and he was a great colleague.

It was a pleasure to nominate Joe for a seat on the board of directors for the Polish Heritage Alliance. Joe was very proud of his rich heritage.

Joe relished the opportunity to roll up his sleeves and make the city a better place. If there was work to be done, you’d find him in the thick of it—never on the sidelines. He was an asset to whatever group he was working with at any given time, and his passing is truly a loss for the City of Milwaukee.

My thoughts are with his family in this difficult time.
