Soundscape Tours with Threshold Artist Michael Bettine

Milwaukee, WI – The Charles Allis Art Museum located at 1801 N. Prospect Avenue is proud to announce an afternoon of guided sound tours with local musician and percussionist, and Threshold artist Michael Bettine. Bettine will present multiple sound tours throughout the first floor of the museum. Things will start in the great hall, where he will play an introductory piece, as well as an explanation of what’s entailed during the tour. From there, he will play a percussion piece and lead the group, Pied Piper fashion, to the kitchen, dining room, French parlor, and library. In each room Michael will have a sound station, made up of different instruments that he will improvise on—play in one room, parade to the next, and repeat. From the library, we will parade back to the great hall where he will play a final short piece.
When: Saturday, February 13, 2016
Time: Each tour is 30 minutes. Tours start on the hour at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00 p.m.

About Michael Bettine
Michael Bettine is a world-class percussionist based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His approach to sound ranges from the traditional to experimental, specializing in playing an array of metal percussion instruments, with an acute interest in the effects of vibrational fields and their ability to change our energy systems. Bettine recently returned to Milwaukee following his stint as the Artist in Residence at the MONA FOMA festival in Hobart, Australia. He performed in eight concerts, including four solo performances, three duos and one quartet with Australian musicians. He is a contributing musician on the recording of Brian Richie’s meditative sound installation Keyori, a part of the current Threshold exhibition.
About Threshold
This winter, the Charles Allis Art Museum transforms to host Threshold, an exhibition that explores psychological interiority through the integration of contemporary art with the sumptuous spaces in the museum. Every room in the Allis mansion will become a conduit for experiencing fear, fragility, wonder and desire. Facilitated through a variety of media technologies, Threshold draws upon the affective qualities of glass, porcelain, light, soil, fur and sound to explore corporeal and emotional relationships. Organized by artist and guest curator Niki Johnson, Threshold features twenty-five nationally and internationally recognized artists, craftsmen and musicians.
