MIDDLETON — This morning, in an interview with Mike Gousha, Senator Johnson continued his refusal to take a position on the TPP. Johnson has now remained silent on the TPP for 332 days.  Time after time Senator Johnson has ducked and dodged questions about the TPP coming up with new excuses about why he won’t be honest with Wisconsinites: he needs more time to review it; he wants Donald Trump’s opinion; he won’t make up his mind until after the election.

But in a stunning turn of events, Senator Johnson admitted this morning that the trade deals he’s supported have been bad for Wisconsin workers. Johnson told Gousha, “a lot of these trade deals have not worked out all that well,” and claimed he hoped his pal Trump would negotiate a better deal. However, Senator Johnson voted to fast track the TPP, which prevents any possible changes. And Senator Johnson has praised the “creative destruction” of free trade deals. So why would Senator Johnson support deals he knows are bad for workers? It’s simple – Senator Johnson isn’t concerned with protecting Wisconsin jobs, he’s focused on protecting the wallets of the big corporate interests bankrolling his campaign.

“Senator Johnson admitted that disastrous trade deals like the TPP are bad for Wisconsin workers, but he continues to support them because he’s focused on the interests of the big corporations financing his campaign. After 332 days of silence, Senator Johnson has sent a message to Wisconsinites loud and clear: a vote for Johnson is a vote for the TPP and the special interests who support it,” said Michael Tyler, RFW Communications Director.

  1. You had your chance, Russ says:

We voted you out last time. When you were in, you did nothing for us. What did you do in your years in office? Who did YOU represent? Yourself? The bill you introduced to fix “campaign financing” did what for the good of all? Produce Super Pacs? Keep people from finding out who was donating and to whom? Yeah, tell us you want to go back to Washington. Stay home. That will keep us all safer. And hope your “fees” for speaking at Universities didn’t keep you up nights. Yeah, Russ “the hypocrite” Feingold.

  2. Vincent Hanna says:

Couldn’t you ask the same questions of Johnson? What is he most known for? What has the super-wealthy Johnson done for anyone but himself and people like him? He got some press for badgering Clinton about Benghazi and believing The Lego Movie is socialist propaganda, and that’s about it. All signs point to RoJo losing this one, as he should.

Vincent Hanna: Exactly right? It’s a case of the pot calling the kettle black as far as You had your chance, Russ, comment goes. The things he/she is blasting Russ for are the things Ron Johnson has been doing since day 1 in the Senate. He votes NO on anything that will help the people, and YES for anything that will help himself and his corporate cronies. How can WE, the people, ever get true representation in Congress anymore.
