Sen. Ron Johnson’s Failed Record for Veterans in Rural Communities

Senator Ron Johnson has spent his time in Washington selling out Wisconsin’s rural communities.

Senator Ron Johnson has spent his time in Washington selling out Wisconsin’s rural communities, including our veterans. He was one of just three senators to oppose a bipartisan bill aimed at reducing VA wait times and making it easier for veterans in small towns to access healthcare near their homes.

The bill, which allowed veterans living more than forty miles from a VA facility to access private health care, was supported by 93 senators. It provided a critical lifeline for veterans across Wisconsin who may live hours away from the nearest VA hospital. Senator Johnson, however, was more interested in pleasing his fellow Washington Republicans party ideology than protecting Wisconsin’s veterans.

“Rather than fight for Wisconsinites, Johnson sided with ultra-conservative Republicans to oppose access to healthcare for veterans in our rural communities. He’s sold out Wisconsin veterans in favor of Washington partisanship and service to the billionaires who fund his re-election bid,” said Harry Hartfield spokesman for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

Then Freedom Partners Action Fund (funded by Charles Koch) ran an ad accusing Russ Fiengold of ignoring a hand delivered memo alleging abusive overprescription of drugs was occurring at the hospital in Tomah Wisconsin.

“Sen. Johnson and his allies knew this ad was false and based on a lie when it began airing. That’s why three TV stations pulled the plug on it,” Feingold spokesman Michael Tyler said in an email.

Johnson has been in office since 2010 and never did anything about this until Tammy Baldwin was elected and began working on a resolution to the problem. Is Johnson trying to take credit for someone else’s work? Why does he consistently vote against bills that will help vets? He recently voted against allowing veterans to get private healthcare if they lived more than 40 miles from a veterans hospital and had difficulty getting there. He obviously does not study the issues and simply votes with the far right-wing of the party on everything. He’s just another puppet of the Koch’s in Washington.

Ron Johnson is the perfect symbol of what the modern Republican Party has evolved into.He is a tea party ideologue, who suffers from ” Penta-gonerrea”, supporting continuous wars while refusing to fund medial care for the human wreckage they cause. He was elected in the tea party wave of 2010, and it is time he is sent back to Oshkosh to run the little corporation that his wealthy father-in-law gave him to run.
