Rep. Taylor’s statement on GOP desperate budget ruse

"Governor Walker hit the nail on the head when he called a Right to Work debate a ‘distraction.’"

MADISON – Legislative Republicans announced today they’d hold an extraordinary session to pass a so-called Right to Work law in Wisconsin. Governor Walker, who previously called the idea a distraction, indicated he’d support the bill. Shortly after the announcement, Rep. Chris Taylor (D-Madison), who serves on the Joint Committee on Finance which will soon take up Governor Walker’s poorly received budget, released the following statement:

“Governor Walker hit the nail on the head when he called a Right to Work debate a ‘distraction.’ After three weeks of terrible press coverage about the Walker deficit and the disastrous Walker budget, Governor Walker and Republican legislators were in desperate need of a distraction. This is why they are again blaming the state’s problems on workers rather than on the failed Republican policies that got us into this budget mess in the first place.

“At a time when middle income families are being economically squeezed with increased expenses but stagnate wages, the last thing Governor Walker and legislative Republicans should do is pass so-called Right to Work laws that again cut wages for working families.

Today’s announcement is a cunning attempt by Governor Walker and legislative Republicans to distract Wisconsinites from this horrible budget and Wisconsin’s stagnate economy, and shift the blame to middle income workers in labor unions. It won’t work. Wisconsinites know that workers aren’t to blame for Wisconsin’s lagging economy; Governor Walker is.”
