Madison – State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D – Milwaukee) issued the following statement regarding Planned Parenthood’s announcement that they will be closing their Appleton North health center.

“Closure of a Planned Parenthood health center in the Fox Valley region will have a devastating effect on many Wisconsin women. They will now have to travel hundreds of miles and pay for overnight stays if they are trying to access abortion services. It is important to note that the only other providers in the state are located in Milwaukee and Madison.

“I blame the decision to close this health center on Republicans’ continued politicization of Wisconsin women’s health. Legislative Republicans have cut vital reproductive health care funding, time and time, again. Additionally, the hateful, violent rhetoric they use fuels the fire of tragedies like last November’s attack on a Colorado Planned Parenthood health center that left 3 dead and 9 injured.

“As a former employee and patient of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, I have seen, firsthand, the high quality of reproductive and sexual healthcare that their health center staff provide Wisconsin women, men, and teens every day. The only solace here is knowing that their Appleton Central Health Center at 508 W. Wisconsin Ave., Suite A remains open, providing preventative sexual and reproductive health care to women, men, and teens across the Fox Valley region and beyond.”
