State Representative Evan Goyke (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement in support of a new development and investment opportunity at Milwaukee’s City Campus site in advance of tonight’s listening session on the subject:

Tonight concerned citizens and community leaders in Milwaukee will gather to discuss the future of City Campus and how the property can be utilized to become a major source of growth and opportunity for the City of Milwaukee. The nearly 200,000 square feet campus is currently being explored as a possible site for new development opportunities following its use as a public campus by Milwaukee County. The current campus consists of numerous structures including a former movie theater, hospital, school, and parking lot.

Speaking in support of the project, Representative Goyke stated, “Bob Uecker often calls a strike by saying ‘Right Down Wisconsin Avenue.’ Wisconsin Avenue is Wisconsin’s Grand Avenue and a gateway to downtown Milwaukee. The City Campus represents a potentially transformational project for Wisconsin Avenue and many of Milwaukee’s central city neighborhoods. I look forward to working with any and all interested parties on this important project.”

Mr. Keith Stanley, Executive Director of the Avenues West Association added, “The Avenues West Association is pleased to be working with Representative Goyke on this major development opportunity. This project has the potential to create jobs, retail, and housing opportunities. It can also serve as a catalyst for development in a community that has already received major investments from the City of Milwaukee and local stakeholders, such as Wisconsin Department of Children’s and Families and local developers.”

Tonight’s listening session is hosted by the Avenues West Association, State Representative Evan Goyke, Alderman Robert Bauman, the Milwaukee County Economic Development Department, and Quorum Architects.
