Redistricting Ruling is Victory for Wisconsin Voters
"We would not be in this mess if our legislative maps were not drawn by partisan elected officials..."
MADISON – State Representative Lisa Subeck (D – Madison) released the following statement today in response to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin ruling that orders new legislative maps to be drawn by the Wisconsin Legislature before November 1, 2017:
“Today’s ruling is a victory for all Wisconsinites. Now we have the opportunity and responsibility to draw fair lines where voters choose their representatives, and not the other way around.
We would not be in this mess if our legislative maps were not drawn by partisan elected officials, and today’s ruling further demonstrates the need for non-partisan redistricting reform. I continue to support a proposed bill that would place responsibility for drawing these maps in the hands of a non-partisan body such as Wisconsin’s Legislative Reference Bureau.”
