Recognizing the importance of Latinos and immigrants to our society
“As Legislative Republicans move forward with cynical anti-immigrant legislation stigmatizing thousands of our neighbors because of their race, they further clarify that the GOP takes pride in their dismal approval numbers among non-whites.”
MADISON – Rep. David Bowen (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement today – “A Day without Latinos and Immigrants” – on the importance of Latinos and all immigrants to Wisconsin.
“As Legislative Republicans move forward with cynical anti-immigrant legislation stigmatizing thousands of our neighbors because of their race, they further clarify that the GOP takes pride in their dismal approval numbers among non-whites.
“I am proud to stand with our Latino brothers and sisters, and all immigrants, as they highlight the vital impact they have on our culture, our economy, and many of the things each and every one of us take for granted on a daily basis. While consumers throughout the state may experience a day without the important presence of Latinos, Republican legislators have the valuable opportunity to spend a day with Latinos, who will be overwhelmingly subject to unfair treatment by police and other government officials because of legislation they are pushing through.
“They should not take this opportunity lightly. I encourage my Republican colleagues to take a moment today to stop and listen to the concerns of Latinos and immigrants that have gathered to express their Constitutional rights, and then explain to those Wisconsinites why they don’t believe they deserve the same rights as the rest of us.”

Rep Barnes released the following statement regarding the claim that a state lawmaker with a concealed weapon permit brandished his handgun in front of visitors to his Capitol office.
"It is simply astonishing how dead-set they are on allowing cronyism and corruption to infiltrate our government..."
“As elected officials, we have a duty to keep our communities as safe and secure as possible from gun violence.”
“...Wisconsin Republicans’ campaign to attack and betray Wisconsin women remains a very clear and present danger to Wisconsin families.”
“I will continue to work to ensure that this project will be a catalytic, once-in-a-generation opportunity for the city of Milwaukee and its families.”
As elected officials, we have a duty to keep our communities safe and secure from gun violence. However, innocent lives are being lost to violent shootings on our streets, and our state’s leaders continue to turn a blind eye to a growing epidemic of gun violence.
