MADISON — In a press call this morning, State Representative Chris Taylor, former Brown County Executive Nancy Nusbaum and Certified Advocate for Sexual Assault Survivors, Cyrena Martin, denounced Senator Johnson for his continued support for Trump. Asked at Friday’s debate if he stood by Trump 100%, Johnson reaffirmed his support, saying he agreed with Trump on all the “big issues.” Johnson’s continued support for Trump comes after more than a dozen women have claimed Trump sexually assaulted them.

The participants called on Johnson to explain his support for Trump in Tuesday’s debate and answer whether he thought sexual assault was a “big issue.” Here are some highlights from the call:

Certified Advocate for Sexual Assault Survivors, Cyrena Martin: “This isn’t a political issue. This is an issue based on human decency and respect. These women who are brave enough to stand up to the men who’ve assaulted them, they definitely need to be respected and not shamed in any way…If we were moderating Tuesday’s debate, I would want to ask Senator Johnson, ‘is sexual assault not a big deal?’”

State Representative, Chris Taylor: It’s very disturbing because the message to Wisconsin women is that you’re not as important as Donald Trump. The message to Wisconsin women is your lives and your health aren’t important…”

Former Brown County Board Executive, Nancy Nusbaum: “At this point, Senator Johnson can’t undo his record or his continued support for Trump. He should at least have the courage to explain it to Wisconsinites in tomorrow’s debate. I hope that he can explain to women like me whether he thinks sexual assault is not a “big issue,” and if he does, how can he continue to support Trump?”
