Middleton – Today is International Women’s Day, a global day of celebration that recognizes the political, social, and cultural achievements women have made around the world while simultaneously continuing the call for universal gender equality. To recognize International Women’s Day, Assistant Assembly Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) released the following statement:

“It is a privilege to join millions of people around the world in recognizing today as International Women’s Day. In Wisconsin, so many powerful women have shaped the cultural, social, and political landscape of our state since its founding. We are indebted to their contributions that have moved our state forward.

“I am honored to serve alongside so many trailblazing women in the Wisconsin State Legislature and am so thankful to the women that served in this body before me. In recognizing today as International Women’s Day, I call on all of my legislative colleagues to recommit to causes that will move us closer towards universal gender parity in Wisconsin.”

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Rep. Hesselbein was proud to be shadowed by two forward-thinking women who share an interest in state government and public service. She will also be spending time today with the Girl Scouts of the Badgerland Council.
