A new restaurant serving Mexican food and even delivering to residents’ doors is the latest addition planned for the Bay View culinary scene, according to Alderman Tony Zielinski.

The owners, business partners Roman Torrez and Juan Montejano, plan to open the Mr. WEBO’s restaurant this January in the former home of Guanajuato, which is relocating to a new space in the neighborhood just 100 yards to the south. Torrez, a designer, said they plan to renovate the restaurant, 2301 S. Howell Ave., to create a minimalistic, hip ambience punctuated by full-sized murals that will cover the walls.

“This is yet another example of an exciting new business choosing to make its home in the 14th district,” Alderman Zielinski said. “I’m pleased to welcome Mr. WEBO’s as Bay View continues to build momentum as the hottest part of Milwaukee.”

The menu at Mr. WEBO’s will feature standard Mexican fare, with a couple of twists. The new restaurant will offer “giant” burritos and quesadillas to patrons who might not be interested in a sit-down dinner, as well as special recipe fish tacos and a host of other options.

The owners also plan to offer residents in at least the Bay View area the opportunity to order Mexican food delivered straight to their doors. Torrez said they also hope to eventually enclose the restaurant’s back patio and turn it into a year-round space.
