MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, in consultation with the Office of Emergency Management, Chief Judge, Sheriff’s office, Comptroller, Director of Administrative Services, and Director of Transportation and Public Works, today declared a snow emergency for Milwaukee County employees beginning at 1:00 p.m. based on the National Weather Service’s Lake Effect Snow Warning and the hazardous weather conditions.

Pursuant to this declaration, all non-essential departments will be closed for the safety of our employees and the public.

County DOT staff has been out at full capacity salting and plowing the freeway and County roads since the inclement weather conditions began last night. They will continue to keep our roads in the safest possible conditions, but we still urge people to stay off the roads if at all possible.

Milwaukee County Transit Services (MCTS) buses are running as scheduled. Employees and visitors may remain sheltered in County facilities while awaiting public or private transportation.
The County’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is closely monitoring the weather conditions and will continue to update personnel on additional closures and hazards.

The County will resume normal operations tomorrow, March 14th, at 10:00 a.m., and all County employees are to report to work tomorrow at that time.
