Meeting To Focus on Potential Development Opportunities in Bronzeville

News Release from Alderwoman Milele Coggs

By - Dec 13th, 2013 11:21 am

Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs will participate in a daylong meeting on Monday, December 16 at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee to further explore possible future developments in Bronzeville.

The meeting – referred to as a “charette” (an intensive architectural/development planning meeting) – will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the UWM School of Architecture & Urban Planning, 2131 E. Hartford Ave. The public is invited to take part in the meeting, which will also include participation by Department of City Development Commissioner Richard “Rocky” Marcoux and Bronzeville area stakeholders.

Alderwoman Coggs said she took part in a similar meeting in June 2013 that focused on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. sites. Following that charette, five potential projects in the King Dr. corridor were identified, including the Malcolm X Academy property redevelopment, Milwaukee Enterprise Center redevelopment, the former vacant parcel that is now a new parking lot that helped bring back Gee’s Clippers to 2215 N. MLK Dr. and the redevelopment of a property at King Dr. and Center St.

“I am looking forward to Monday’s meeting and encourage residents, business owners and stakeholders to attend – even if just for an hour or two – and take part in the discussion,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “The meeting has the potential to generate some ideas sparking discussions that could get us closer to possible new developments in Bronzeville,” she said.
