MILWAUKEE – MCTS Bus Driver Chris Martin didn’t think much of it when he got out of his bus to help an elderly man cross the street; however, one of his passengers saw the act of kindness and notified MCTS. The passenger nominated Chris for a commendation for his actions.

“Chris is like many MCTS employees: dedicated, kind and caring,” Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said. “I want to thank Chris for leading by example and being a true public servant.”

Chris was driving the westbound Route 30X around 8:30am on Tuesday, August 18th when he pulled over at a stop on Wisconsin Avenue. One of his passengers getting off was an elderly man who had to cross the street to catch a connecting bus to the VA Hospital.

Without pausing, Chris got out of his seat and helped the man get to the connecting bus stop. He then got back in his seat and continued his route. The whole thing was caught on video which can be seen on the MCTS Facebook Page.

This is not the first time Chris has been nominated for a commendation for his actions on the job. In 2014 and 2013 he received five commendations.

“I try to help our passengers as much and any way I can,” Martin said, downplaying his service. “Our job is important and I know the small things we do can have a big impact on our passengers.”

Every year, MCTS receives hundreds of commendations from the public about its drivers and staff for going above and beyond.

If you see a driver doing something worthy of special notice, please let us know by filling out the commendation form on RideMCTS.com.
