MILWAUKEE – April 14, 2017 –InterContinental® Milwaukee and The Pfister® Hotel, both owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, will host exhibits as part of the Historic Third Ward’s Gallery Night and Day festivities on Friday, April 21, 2017. The hotels will feature local artists in both hotel studios as well as a special poetry slam-style event to celebrate the completion of the Pfister’s Narrator-in-Residence, Dominic Inouye’s residency.

Gallery Night and Day at the InterContinental Milwaukee Hotel

Gallerie M inside the InterContinental Milwaukee will display the works of Phyllis Bankier, a local Cedarburg photographer. Her exhibit, “Life is Delicious,” features natural and uncomplicated food portraits so viewers can look at the foods we eat from all different angles. Guests are invited to view the exhibit until April 29, 2017.

Gallery Night and Day at The Pfister Hotel

During Gallery Night and Day, guests are invited to visit and meet the newest Artist-in-Residence, Margaret Muza. Muza, a tintype photographer will show off her new, authentic tintype photography studio as well as her past works. Guests will also be able to witness the unique process of tintype photography that takes only fifteen minutes from start to finish to develop a photo similar to those dating back to the 1860’s.

Katie Musolff, the Pfister Hotel’s second Artist-in-Residence, painted portraits of Pfister associates during her residency.  The hotel commissioned Musolff to paint three additional associates earlier this year. The paintings feature six familiar long-time Pfister associates and will be hung in the Pfister Café for viewers to see for the first time during Gallery Night.  The pieces were framed by Jennifer Bartelt of Main Street Framing Gallery, a small, woman-owned company in Lannon, Wis. Jennifer is a photographer, as well.

Farewell Reception for Pfister Narrator, Dominic Inouye

Guests can also join The Pfister Narrator’s event, “The Ink Runs Dry: A Farewell Word Slam,” to celebrate Dominic Inouye’s year-long residency at the hotel. The poetry-slam style event will take place on Friday, April 21 from 9 – 11 p.m. in the Rouge Ballroom. Along with many guest readers, Inouye will reveal the twenty creative pieces–written by participants in his monthly Plume Service writing workshops–inspired by the Victorian paintings on the mezzanine level.  Readers will also help Inouye relive selections from his “Humans of The Pfister” series and favorite feature stories.

In between sets, guests will enjoy desserts, a cash bar and live jazz from two of Inouye’s favorite musicians–Jamie Breiwick and Mark Davis. In addition, the evening will feature a special set of live tableaus inspired by some of the paintings, performed by local artist Blasted Ellipses and friends.  For those who enjoyed Art in Bloom at the Milwaukee Art Museum, this will be a must see.

About The Pfister Hotel

The Pfister Hotel has been the premier hotel in downtown Milwaukee for over 120 years. Originally built in 1893 by businessman Guido Pfister, it was the most lavish hotel of its time. The hotel’s storied elegance had faded following World War II, until 1962, when Ben Marcus, founder of The Marcus Corporation, purchased this grand hotel out of bankruptcy. The Marcus family renovated and restored the hotel to its original glory, adding convention facilities, a parking garage and 23-story guest tower. The Pfister Hotel remains home to the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, and offers an interactive augmented reality tour of pieces in this impressive collection.

Today the Pfister Hotel continues its tradition of gracious service and impeccable style, and has been recognized for 41 consecutive years by AAA as a Four-Diamond property. In 2017, The Pfister Hotel was ranked the No. 1 Best Milwaukee Hotel by U.S. News & World Report.  This exceptional property is a member of two prestigious hotel organizations, Historic Hotels of America and Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. The Pfister Hotel is located at 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. in downtown Milwaukee. For more information, please visit www.thepfisterhotel.com and follow the hotel on Facebook and Twitter (@PfisterHotel).
