MILWAUKEE, WI (Thursday, February 18, 2016) -The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and Milwaukee Public Schools continue to team up for a new outreach program called Arts Connect. The Center is thrilled to continue to offer this program to area youth and is working with Roundabout Theatre Company’s Cabaret to offer an acting workshop for students at MPS’ Milwaukee High School of the Arts. This program is designed to allow these students to experience the various aspects of the performing arts including exploration of various college and career possibilities. Students will work with a cast member from the touring production on Thursday, February 25 at 9:00 am at the MPS’ Milwaukee High School of the Arts.

These special opportunities with Broadway shows are made possible due to the partnership of Associated Bank and their support as the premier partner of the Marcus Center. Without their contributions as our Broadway series sponsor to bring these shows to Milwaukee, the outreach programs during this diverse season wouldn’t have been possible.

The acting workshop on Thursday, February 25 will encourage the students to step into someone else’s shoes for a day! In this hands-on participatory workshop, students and groups will explore how an actor uses physical and vocal choices to create a character inspired by those we meet in Cabaret. Students will use improvisation, tableau, and movement to discover how posture, movement, pitch, etc. can be adjusted to create a fully realized character onstage. They will also learn historical context of Cabaret and how this affects the creating a character.

The Arts Connect outreach program will continue throughout the year with the Marcus Center’s upcoming Associated Bank Broadway at the Marcus Center series and Off Broadway 2015/2016 season.
