Kohl’s Wild Theater Unveils Conservation-Themed Shows for Fall
Free theater performances shown at festivals, schools and community events within a one-hour radius of the Milwaukee County Zoo

Kohl’s Wild Theater is pleased to introduce its fall programming series. Kohl’s Wild Theater, a program of the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, is made possible by a partnership with Kohl’s Cares®, the philanthropic program of Kohl’s, which provided a multi-year grant of $1.5 million. The live theater productions offer conservation-themed performances using drama, songs and puppetry. This fall and extending into winter, children can learn about healthy eating habits, the challenges faced by animals that stay in Wisconsin during the cold months, and how to use trash by repurposing it into musical instruments. Shows are available free of charge to schools, festivals and community events within a one-hour radius of the Zoo and are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Summaries of the shows are listed below:
“The Healthy Habits Hullabaloo” (Available now through December 2015)
Everyone has something to say when it comes to being healthy. In a change of pace, this show takes audiences on a silly romp from an animal perspective. This 30-minute mix of skits, songs and games focuses on healthy eating, staying physically active, sleeping well and using creative play. This show is most appropriate for grades pre-K through 5 and families with children of all ages.
“Wisconsin Wonderland” (Available now through January 2016)
Wisconsin is a great place for people, but what do animals do when the temperature drops? This 45-minute show includes “A Winter’s Tail,” a musical about how animals survive in Wisconsin during the cold winter months. Then, follow two migrating songbirds as they travel from Wisconsin to the tropics in “Journey to the Rich Coast.” This musical shows the challenges of bird migration and what kids can do from home to help birds along their way. Concepts presented include Wisconsin habitat preservation, animal adaptations, hibernation, migration, rainforests and more! This show is most appropriate for grades 1-5 and families with children of all ages.
“Trash or Tunes” (Available now through February 2016)
Sammy O. is Milwaukee High’s best musician. But with the talent show just around the corner, Sammy stays away from the chance to shine. With the encouragement of a friend and the guidance of an unexpected mentor, Sammy learns the power of using creativity to make our world a better place. This 45-minute musical features live music created through repurposed trash. Audiences will learn about the impact of trash on our environment and creative ways to reuse discarded items. This musical is designed for grades 4-8.
