Hit-and-run leaves veteran crossing guard seriously injured
Statement of Alderman Cavalier “Chevy” Johnson - November 10, 2017
A Milwaukee Police Department crossing guard who was helping students safely cross near Carmen Middle/High School of Science and Technology: Northwest Campus (5496 N. 72nd St.) in the 2nd Aldermanic District was struck and seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident at 6:25 a.m. today. The crossing guard – a 71-year-old man – was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
This is outrageous and maddening, as our crossing guards are doing their critical duty to protect the safety of our precious children. Merely disobeying a crossing guard is something most of us would never consider, and having someone recklessly hit and seriously injure a crossing guard – and then flee the scene — is beyond the pale.
MPD is seeking a burgundy, 4-door, 1997-2001 Buick Park Avenue or LeSabre. I urge anyone with information to please call Milwaukee Police at 414-935-7360.
