MILWAUKEE: The Historic Brewers Hill Association (“HBHA”) and the Riverwest Neighborhood Association (“RNA”) are pleased to announce a 16th Assembly District Candidate Forum on August 1 at 6:30 p.m.

The Candidate Forum will be held at Schlitz Park, 1555 N. Rivercenter Drive in the Auditorium. Thanks to the generosity of Schlitz Park, the Candidate Forum is free and open to the public.

The HBHA and RNA are working with the League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County to moderate this event for the voters of the 16th Assembly District. Four candidates will appear on the primary ballot and all four were invited to participate in the forum. Three candidates have accepted: Brandy Bond, Stephen Jansen, and Edgar Lin. The incumbent, Representative Leon Young, declined due to a previously scheduled family event.

“The voters of Brewers Hill and throughout the 16th District are looking forward to hearing from the candidates on the issues that matter to us – education, jobs, safety, and how we can work together to improve our district and our City,” said HBHA President William Jenkins.

In the 2014 primary and in the last Presidential Election, the Riverwest and Historic Brewers Hill wards (138 & 177, respectively) had the highest number of voters for any ward in the 16th District. Both neighborhoods look forward to helping turn out their neighbors to vote for the primary election on August 9 and for the general election on November 8.

“RNA is proud to co-sponsor this event so that our neighbors throughout the 16th Assembly District can learn about the candidates’ responses to our questions and can educate ourselves before we enter the ballot box on August 9,” said RNA co-chair Jacob Liptack.

The forum will be held on Monday, August 1 at the Schlitz Park Auditorium, located at 1555 N. Rivercenter Drive. The forum will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. It will be non-partisan, in accordance with the rules of the League of Women Voters of Milwaukee County.
