Milwaukee, WI — Thomas Harris is calling for the creation of a State Senate Committee on African American Affairs. This committee will focus on the specific challenges facing the community such as unemployment, mass incarceration, delivery of quality healthcare and inequalities in educational outcomes.
“Over the past several months, I’ve knocked on thousands of doors across the 6th State Senate District speaking with my neighbors. In conversation after conversation I hear the same thing: ‘Why doesn’t State government focus on us for a change?’ I totally agree,” said Harris.
“We have known for years that African Americans in Wisconsin have not had the opportunities provided to others and it shows in health, education and economic disparities. We also know that we cannot wait any longer for State government to take action. I believe a Committee on African American Affairs, aided by staff and a mandate to deliver actual results, is an important step in helping our community make real progress.
