Governor Scott Walker joined local business leaders and representatives today in Milwaukee at Marketplace 2015, the Governor’s 34th Annual Conference on Minority Business Development.  The conference is the premier matchmaking and training resource for minority business enterprises, women-owned businesses, and veteran-owned businesses.

“Wisconsin’s minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses are an integral aspect of our economy,” Governor Walker said.  “Some of our top priorities for the state include developing our workforce and growing our economy, and our minority businesses are crucial in achieving that goal.  The success of these businesses contributes to the success of Wisconsin and today’s conference was an excellent opportunity for minority business leaders to establish or expand their business in our state.”

Hosted by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), the Marketplace Conference attracts attendees from across the state, with 600 expected at this years’ event.  Attendees will have the chance to hear from agency representatives about business resources and programs; weigh the benefits of local, state, and federal certification programs; and meet one-on-one with prospective buyers.  Seminars at the conference are centered on business survival strategies, effective contracting, smart financing, advanced technology, and marketing.

The Marketplace Conference also recognizes the winners of the Governor’s Minority Business Awards.  Nearly 200 businesses applied for the awards, and 21 minority, women, and disabled veteran-owned businesses were selected in the categories of outstanding large business, outstanding small business, and rising stars.
