Gov. Walker and President-elect Trump put polluters and special interests ahead of Wisconsin families

"Gov. Walker is once again proposing a range of costly, discriminatory and unconstitutional policies aimed at punishing workers and dividing communities."

MADISON, WI – Ignoring Wisconsin’s looming budget deficit, historic school cuts, an ongoing transportation funding crisis and widening income inequality, Gov. Scott Walker wrote to President-elect Donald Trump today seeking to put polluters and wealthy special interests ahead of working families. Rather than creating jobs and expanding economic opportunities, Gov. Walker is once again proposing a range of costly, discriminatory and unconstitutional policies aimed at punishing workers and dividing communities. In response, Senate Democratic Leader Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) released the following statement:

“It’s no surprise that Gov. Walker wants to team up with President-elect Trump to put polluters and wealthy special interests ahead of Wisconsin’s working families. These are the same unconstitutional and misguided Republican policies that have decimated Wisconsin’s middle class, cut family wages and resulted in 20 consecutive quarters of below-average economic performance.

“Families want us to focus on boosting wages, strengthening schools, making child care more affordable and improving retirement security. Rather than rejecting federal funding for health care, broadband and transportation like Gov. Walker has done, Democrats want to ensure that tax dollars paid by Wisconsin families are being returned here to our state and used to strengthen our middle class.”

Bernie would’ve crushed Trump, handily…Democrats will never win again in Wisconsin until they accept this and adopt much of his platform and his grass roots, blue collar worker focused approach. They can start by immediately using this unique opportunity to embrace such policies like ending the utter failure of cannabis Prohibition in Wisconsin, a wise move in a myriad of ways. A move which is strongly supported by over 60% of Wisconsinites, yet virtually no Democrat in the state other than Melissa Sargent stands up for? If Feingold had, he would’ve won. Same is true for countless other Democratic losers this year in Wisconsin. Sadly, even though it’s widely supported by the population and now an official part of the Democratic Party Platform, Wisconsin Democrats continue to obfuscate, stall, laugh at and generally disregard the issue, to their own detriment. Thus it’s a position that is up for grabs in this state and I predict Republicans with a Libertarian streak may very well grab hold of this issue as they have in other states and the Democrats will realize the hard way that by not standing up against the hugely unpopular failure of cannabis Prohibition that they have blindly swallowed a political poison pill that will haunt them for decades.
