February 14, 2017 – (Milwaukee, WI) Footlights, the playbill-of-choice for countless performing arts organizations in the Midwest, has confirmed that award-winning actor and producer John McGivern will be the ceremony host for the 2017 Footlights Performing Arts Awards for Greater Milwaukee.

A native of Wisconsin, Milwaukee-born McGivern is well known in the Milwaukee arts community. Recognized for his role as Bruce Macintosh in Walt Disney’s “The Princess Diaries”, where he shares a scene with screen legend Julie Andrews, McGivern has made many artistic contributions to his hometown. His one-man monologue shows, centered on his childhood and formative years in Milwaukee, continue to sell-out. He is also the host of the Milwaukee PBS’ series “Around the Corner with John McGivern”, which has won a regional Emmy for Outstanding Achievement for Magazine Programming.

“We are incredibly excited that John has agreed to host the first-ever Footlights Performing Arts Awards,” President of Marcus Promotions and Publisher of Footlights Steve Marcus said in a statement. “He has done great things for Wisconsin and the city of Milwaukee with his television programming and one-man shows.  We hope he will be able to help grow the awareness of Milwaukee’s performing arts community by participating in this awards event.”

The Footlights Performing Arts Awards is the first and only awards celebration in the city of Milwaukee that will not only recognize the entire performing arts community but will also feature a physical, live awards ceremony.

Nominations began on January 2, 2017, and will continue until March 31, 2017. Once the nominations have been finalized, the top nominations in every category—up to ten—will move on to the official voting round. Voting is set for the month of April, where audiences and artists alike will be able to determine the top three nominees in all 16 categories.

The first-ever Footlights Performing Arts Awards ceremony is set for Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s Quadracci Powerhouse. Tickets will go on sale to the public within the next few weeks, with a special pre-sale code being offered to those that vote in April.
