Dan Adams Applauds Federal Court Decision Striking Down Wisconsin’s Gay Marriage Ban
Earlier today, Judge Barbara Crabb of the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin issued a ruling striking down Wisconsin’s ban on gay marriage.
June 6, 2014 – – Milwaukee, Wisconsin – – Earlier today, Judge Barbara Crabb of the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin issued a ruling striking down Wisconsin’s ban on gay marriage. In 2006, Wisconsin adopted a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and a separate law criminalized gay marriage by providing that residents who are married in another jurisdiction that would be prohibited within Wisconsin may be fined up to $10,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 9 months. Wis. Stat. § 765.30(1)(a).
Dan Adams, candidate for the Wisconsin Assembly released the following statement applauding Judge Crabb’s ruling:
In the future, labels like “same-sex marriage” and “gay marriage” will be replaced simply by “marriage.” Wisconsinites have long recognized the equal rights of all people and each of our citizens deserve nothing less than equal protection under the law. I applaud Judge Crabb for issuing a historic ruling invalidating this discriminatory amendment and helping Wisconsin join its neighbors in the right side of history in this important issue.
