MILWAUKEE (Jan. 11, 2017) – Area residents with the best chili recipes—and those with an appetite for a good bowl of chili—are invited to Wehr Nature Center’s Groundhog Day Chili Cook-Off, held each year on the Saturday closest to Groundhog Day. This year, the event takes place Feb. 4, from 6-8 p.m. The Nature Center is located at 9701 W. College Ave.
Chili cooks must register with the Nature Center by Jan. 27, and are asked to bring six to seven quarts of their secret-recipe chili, ready to serve, by 5:30 p.m. on the event day.
Everyone attending the event will vote for their favorite entry. In addition to chili, offerings include a baked-potato station, corn bread, vegetable tray, nachos and salsa, and a homemade-dessert buffet. One complimentary beer, wine, or non-alcoholic beverage is included in the price of admission. Tokens for additional wine, beer, and soda will be available for purchase.
The evening will conclude with a winter-themed silent auction and the presentation of the travelling trophy to the winner of the chili competition. Auction items include Bucks Courtside Club tickets, handmade mittens, chocolates, a basket of tea selections, and a variety of unique items suitable for gift-giving.
The chili cook-off, an event of the Friends of Wehr, will help raise funds for accessibility renovations at the nature center.
Seating is limited. Reservations guarantee a seat. Walk-ins will be welcomed as space allows.
General admission is $25 per person, but chili cooks receive free admission. Parking is free for all attending. For more information, call Wehr at (414) 425-8550.
