Milwaukee, WI (August, 2014) – The Boulevard Theatre continues to make headlines with the addition of Dawn Wenszell as its Managing Director. In this newly created full time position, Ms. Wenszell will work in concert with long-time Artistic Director Mark Bucher to grow the company in a new mobile model.

“The Boulevard Theatre is going through some really exciting changes,” said Board President Holly Blomquist. “After 28 seasons in one location, we sold the building on Kinnickinnic Avenue to focus on a new model of dynamic mobility: bringing intimate, extraordinary theatre to audiences in every corner of Milwaukee. We are moving in a great direction, and we sought candidates who were ready to make smart, bold choices to keep the momentum we have moving forward.”

For 28 seasons, The Boulevard Theatre has provided patrons with a familial feel, largely due to the charisma and talent of Artistic Director, Mark Bucher. In her new role as Managing Director, Ms. Wenszell will work as a complement to Mr. Bucher, engaging with established audiences on a personal level and working to grow awareness for the theatre with new audiences as it expands to new performance locations throughout Milwaukee.

“The Boulevard holds a special place in my heart and I am so excited to be part of the new adventure of bringing the “Boulevard charm” to new locations and audiences, “ Ms. Wenszell said. “I am really looking forward to working with, and learning from, the current company of artists, staff, board members and other volunteers.  We really have a dream team at this point in the Boulevard’s history and I am pleased to be a part of it. While much has changed in the past 16 years (since I last worked with the Boulevard), I was delighted to find that the artists, audience and volunteers are the same earnest and intelligent Milwaukeeans’ that I enjoy connecting with.  The Boulevard, is really about a great cross section of the community sharing the experience of theatre together”

Dawn Wenszell has been an outstanding candidate for the Boulevard organization – in part due to her years of experience in the Milwaukee Theatre community, but also due to her personal history with the Boulevard Theatre. She was an instrumental Business Manager in the early days of the Boulevard, a position in which she actively engaged with artists and audiences, and contributed greatly to the organization’s past growth. Her more recent experience, spending over 15 years as Company Manager of the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, provides her with an understanding of how larger companies organize, function and grow.

“It is her experience as well as her familiarity and affinity for the Boulevard Theatre organization that really made her stand out in our field of candidates,” Blomquist said. “She brings a wealth of experience in Milwaukee theatre, and a willingness and desire to grow professionally in this brand new position. We are absolutely thrilled to have Dawn re-join the Boulevard family in this capacity!”
