Anti-Immigrant Amicus Brief Deprives Immigrant Families of Respect and Dignity

In response to Republican efforts to bring forward a resolution authorizing the Speaker of the House to file an anti-immigrant amicus brief with the United States Supreme Court, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-04) issued the following statement:
“Speaker Paul Ryan’s attempt to file an anti-immigrant amicus brief with the United States Supreme Court represents yet another partisan effort to undermine President Obama during an election year. Sadly, these discriminatory efforts by my conservative colleagues signify an ongoing campaign to cater to the most extreme wing of the Republican Party and fan the flames of dangerous anti-immigrant hostility.
“Adding insult to injury is the secrecy associated with the details of this amicus brief. An issue as important as immigration reform demands transparency, but in reality, no Member of the House has actually seen the language of this partisan brief despite attempts by Speaker Ryan to file it on behalf of the full House.
“I take great pride in pursuing solutions that substantively address our broken immigration system, from supporting President Obama’s actions on DACA and DAPA to stop deportation actions against innocent children and mothers, to cosponsoring the Reuniting Families Act, a bill that helps ensure visas are allocated efficiently, and ending discrimination in immigration law against LGBT Americans and their foreign-born partners. Rather than taking a page out of Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant playbook, Congress’ collective focus should center on pursuing comprehensive immigration reform and supporting the hard-working immigrant families who are woven into the cultural tapestry of this great nation.”

Two seconds on Google prove you wrong Tony. Maybe do a little research next time? Moore has addressed black male unemployment and incarceration in the past. She has called for sentencing reform and has proposed ways to address poverty in inner cities. Feel free to dislike her, but at least get your facts straight.
Milwaukee high rate of Black male unemployment is not a recent problem it 30 years old and counting. Gwen Moore has been in public office that long and only recently she might address these issue when pressed and nowadays because these issue, have mainstreamed. So of course, it is a liberal talking point which she (Gwen) in the past gave two-cents – if that much- to the problem here in Milwaukee.
Gwen is well aware of the past 30 years disparity studies conducted by UWM regarding the issue of Black male unemployment. She has not used that knowledge to move Federal, State, and local politicians to address these issues.
What exactly should she be doing that she isn’t? She has certainly talked about the very issues you claimed she totally ignores. She’s part of the minority party and has limited power, but she’s not pretending they don’t exist or doing nothing. What should she be doing exactly? You keep saying “liberal talking points” and it’s not clear what you mean. You sound like you are repeating what you’ve heard on right-wing talk radio.
First, Gwen Moore and other elected Black Politicians across this country should be seeking increased legal funding / enforcing employment discrimination laws happening throughout America since it was enacted (EEOC and States fair employment policies), but they chose to seek more and more funding to support poverty programs.
If heads of families can not find nor keep jobs because of their race how do the society believe they can support their families and keep them off public welfare (This is the base that supports the institution of racism here in America bent on disenfranchising as many as its Black citizens it can).
Secondly, Gwen Moore did not support the local chapter of the NAACP procurement audit request / demand to the city and county of Milwaukee…She was quite on the issue like many other elected Wisconsin Black politicians. Gwen knows damn well Mayor Tom Tom Barette publicly announced (you google this) the dropping of the City of Milwaukee Minority hiring quoted publicly stating – Milwaukee is Open for Business – GWEN AND OTHER BLACK POLITICIANS SAID NOTHING AGAINST THIS MAYORAL ACT HERE IN THE CITY OF MILWAUKEE.
Thirdly, Milwaukee Wisconsin has a rich history of discriminating against its Black citizens in the public field sectors of education, employment, and government positions. It’s called hyper-segregation. Are you familiar with that term? Wel,l the rest of the nation is and have awarded Milwaukee the honors of being the most segregated city of its size in the nation 56 years in counting.
Thirdly, I am my own man and BLACK at that!…America two-party system and its members (Black and White) are birds of the same feather. When either point a finger at the other three fingers are pointing back in its direction. President Obama is the only sound minded politician holding office these past 7.5 years and since dear old Abe.
Fourth, I could go on and on about what Black politicians are not doing locally and nationally, but I will sum it up with a quote when President Obama addressed the so-called Congressional Black Caucus…”Take off your house slippers and put back on your work boots.”
Note…President Lincoln had the solution to the Black and White problem / racism here in America over 150 years ago. More than likely his solution is the real reason his head was blown off (You research his solution for yourself if you don’t already know it).
Lastly, you mention googling Gwen Moore addressing the issues regarding Black male unemployment and Black male high incarceration rates but you failed to mention or note any public statements you found.
I don’t need to google what I know for a certainty based on my own research, not White male conservative talking points. White males are the root of the Black and White problem. Why would Ias a Black man follow or support their line of political thinking? My social media opinions and commentaries may appear to align with conservative talking points but trust me only in truth.
By the way, I love it when a White man tells political truths regardless of political affiliation. There is truth to be found on both sides of the isles in government.
Well OK then. I guess I’m having trouble following your arguments. First you accuse Moore of doing nothing about inner city poverty, but then you say that instead of focusing on employment discrimination she chased more money for poverty programs.
Yes I am aware that Milwaukee has just a little bit of a segregation problem.
I specifically stated Moore does not address Black male unemployment and the high incarceration rate of young Black males. I said nothing about her addressing poverty issue relating to the Black community. As a matter of fact, I am fond of reminding people and my readers the comparable undertone between “street pimps” and liberal poverty pimps seeking Federal and State funding for programs that in all actually support the continuance of poverty in the American society.
Poverty is created in a bustling society such as America by the lack of livable wage jobs in any given city or rural communities poverty is observed. Poverty is not created by racism. The high Black male unemployment rate in Milwaukee is created by racism and the social result of high crime in young Black males is due to the lack of jobs offered to them in the City of Milwaukee in surrounding area.
Employment discrimination practiced by White employers against Black Americans is a result of the Institution of American Racism which is alive and well in the American society.
The 1964 Civil Rights Acts which outlaws ED is not enforced completely by courts of law. Be they Federal or State because State and Federal civil rights attorneys are under staff and allocated limited funding which is deliberately limited by Congressional under sight, not over sight. Again, our Congress and the previous Congresses after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act can care less about how Black Americans are treated unfairly on the job by White employers in our nation. If the American government had the will to eliminate the deceptive practice it would have long ago disappeared in our society.
