Another Attack on Local Control

"I abhor the assault on local control that has emanated from Madison throughout these last few years."

MILWAUKEE- Late last week, the Wisconsin State Legislature debated legislation which would continue to hurt local control, and make our state less welcoming to our immigrant neighbors.

“I abhor the assault on local control that has emanated from Madison throughout these last few years. Whether it was the residency requirement, school funding referendums, and most recently municipal issued ID cards, the State Legislature has little regard for local control,” noted Chevy Johnson.

“In Milwaukee’s Second Aldermanic District, we have a high number of immigrant residents, who will be affected by this legislation. As someone who hopes to represent them soon, I won’t sit idly by and have them marginalized by this Legislature looking to pander to its base. I hope that we can move beyond this divisive legislation, and focus on ways to connect people to work with family supporting wages, invest in local infrastructure, and fight crime.”

Chevy Johnson recently served as Staff Assistant to the Mayor of Milwaukee and emerged from a five person Primary Election contest as the top vote getter earning 38% of the vote. A long time resident of the 2nd district, Chevy is committed to bringing responsible, accountable, and dependable leadership to the Milwaukee Common Council. The General Election is April 5th, 2016.
