Milwaukee, WI …This October, Wild Space will take audiences inside the new Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory Annex for Luminous, where uncontrollable nature, creative daring and the physical poetry of dance come together. In collaboration with Duo d’Entre-Deux saxophonists Tommie Davis and Nick Zoulek, Wild Space dancers will move among the growing shadows and shifting reflections beneath the greenhouse glass vault. Luminous performances are at 7:30 p.m., October 22-24, 2015 at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory Annex at 524 S. Layton Boulevard. Luminous tickets are available for advance purchase only.  No tickets will be sold at the door.  Premium/pre-show tickets are $25, which includes a 6:45 p.m. pre-show talk about the past and present of Mitchell Park with Friends of the Domes member Michael JohnstonShow only tickets are $20 for general admission, $15 for students and seniors (does not include pre-show).  Tickets are available by calling 414/271-0712 or online at www.wildspacedance.org/performance/performance.html.

“The new Annex is an incredible space for performance and we are thrilled to be the first major performance event in the space,” says Artistic Director Debra Loewen.  “The glass walls and roof bring the outside in, offering a constantly changing backdrop to create movement and dance.  We are very grateful to Mitchell Park, Friends of the Domes and the Milwaukee County Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture for making this event possible.”

Luminous begins with audiences viewing a dance vignette through the greenhouse wall of windows.  The outside comes in as dancers and Duo d’Entre-Deux create new sounds, shadows and movement inspired by the Annex architecture and the nature that surrounds it. The weather will also play a supporting role with rain, clouds, wind or clear starry skies transforming each site-based performance into a one-of-a-kind experience each night.

“Wisconsin is known for wild changes in weather, sometimes within the span of hours,” says Loewen.  “We can’t control what will take place outside the Annex, so it will be an exciting challenge to embrace and respond to the elements visible through the glass walls and vault.”

Luminous is the second collaboration between Wild Space and Duo d’Entre-Deux, a follow-up to their performance in New York City’s Roulette performance space last March.  Duo d’Entre-Deux saxophonists Tommie Davis (based in Canada) and Nick Zoulek (based in the U.S.) perform across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and France.  As a soloist, Zoulek has also worked with Wild Space for its 2012 site-specific performance Milwaukee 360 at the Brewery, the former Pabst Brewery. Performers include Angela Frederick, Kelly Radermacher Butts, Monica Rodero, Dan Schuchart and Yeng Vang-Strath, and UW-Milwaukee Dance interns Miranda Heavener, Danielle Lohuis, Caroline Seigworth, Zach Schorsch and Melissa Vesel.

Luminous is part of Wild Space’s Neighborhood Sites initiative, and will include school outreach in conjunction with the performance. Performances and outreach programs are supported in part by grants from The Gardner Foundation, the Milwaukee Arts Board and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin.

About Mitchell Park

The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory has been part of Milwaukee since the first conservatory opened to the public in 1899. The original conservatory exhibited flowers and plants in a greenhouse setting until 1955, later replaced by the familiar conoidal domes in the late 1960s.  Over a century later, Mitchell Park has returned to its beginnings with seven new state-of-the-art greenhouses, with one dedicated to special events and outreach.  The remaining greenhouses are not open to the public.  For more information about Mitchell Park, visit http://www.milwaukeedomes.org or http://county.milwaukee.gov/MitchellParkConserva10116.htm
