200+ students from 3 MPS schools will perform at Milwaukee Youth Arts Center
Concert set for Wednesday, November 18 at 11:30 a.m.
MILWAUKEE (November 16, 2015) – Elementary, middle and high school students from three MPS schools will join together Wednesday morning for a concert celebrating what students have access to and can achieve in the arts, from kindergarten through high school and into college and their adult life.
More than 200 students from Milwaukee Public Schools‘ Academia de Lenguaje y Bellas Artes (ALBA) elementary school, Wedgewood Park International School (which serves grades 6-8) and Milwaukee High School of the Arts will perform with their voices, instruments and dancing.
Representatives from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra and adult musicians from a community band will all address the students about the value of continuing their love of music throughout life.
The event is set for Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 W. Walnut Street, Milwaukee 53212.
MPS music teachers Sharie Garcia, of Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Michelle Miller, of Wedgewood Park and James Vernola, of ALBA, planned the event. MPS Music Curriculum Specialist Tony Soyak will serve as guest conductor for a piece as well.
“This concert displays passionate teachers working with passionate students. These children are invested in their education and want to showcase their talents,” Vernola said. “It’s a proud example of the arts and MPS.”
