Meagan Holman

Holman was a candidate for 14th district seat on the Milwaukee Common Council. The 14th district is made up of Bay View and parts of Milwaukee’s South Side. Holman was attempting to defeat incumbent Tony Zielinski.

Holman indicated her support for the Milwaukee Streetcar project (source). Zielinski has been a vocal opponent of the streetcar starter project.

Holman was a member of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors from 2011 until April 2015. She served as the Vice President of the board. In December 2014, she announced her intent not to run for a second term. She told Jay Bullock, “I couldn’t seek another term, work full-time, and give the school board what it deserves.” The school board pay is $18,000 a year.

Her bio on the Milwaukee Public Schools read as follows.

Meagan Holman is an emerging leader in Milwaukee’s nonprofit sector, who has brought her experience as an advocate and community organizer to nearly a dozen area organizations, whether in a staff, consultant, or volunteer role. She has worked with business, community, faith, and school leaders to solve problems and to get things done for Milwaukee families.

Meagan began her career with two years of public service in youth-oriented AmeriCorps programs. In addition to her role on the MPS Board, Meagan serves as a lecturer in the Education Policy department at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and is an active volunteer with the Bay View Neighborhood Association.

A product of public schools in Massachusetts, Meagan attended Oberlin College in Ohio and went on to study at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where she earned a Masters degree in Public Policy. Her four sons attend Fernwood Montessori School in MPS.
