Fog Fest 2014

Summerfest's opening ceremony had lots of notables and lots of fog, but our camera captured the scene anyway.

The fog may have postponed the Big Bang, but no fog, rain, or sweltering heat will delay Summerfest. The Hunger Task Force, with an assist from Johnson Controls, helped kick things off by trading free tickets to the Fest for food for the hungry. Although the crowd seemed a bit thin on opening day, things are sure to pickup if and when it heats up.

Summerfest unveiled a new Ferris wheel that’s sure to impress the kids. Food venders have upped their game taking food combinations to a new level. They are now offering a million and one new ways to stuff junk food into cones. Really, what’s better than a chicken cone? A pizza cone.

The opening celebration featured notables: Summerfest CEO Don Smiley, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn, Department of City Development Commissioner Rocky Marcoux, Common Council President Michael Murphy, Ald. Bob Bauman, and new Marquette Basketball Coach Steve Wojciechowski. They got things started in pure Milwaukee style, with a Miller Lite toast.  That’s right, it’s Miller Time.

Our photos take you on a tour of the grounds and help you see through the fog of the opening ceremony.
