Danceworks, the Milwaukee group that can be funny, smart and sexy, offers a new show this week, called Plugged In which promises to turn the Danceworks Studio Theatre into a dance club. Local artist Jason Powell, who just finished his acclaimed turn as the Narrator/Satan in Danceworks collaboration with Present Music collaboration Temptation’s Snare earlier this month, generated the concept for Plugged In.

“Jason proposed the idea to write a set of ‘80s inspired pop songs, as if he was a washed-up singer who used to play huge stadiums, but now appears at county fairs and small town bars,” Danceworks Artistic Director Dani Kuepper says. The two then came up with the idea that several Danceworks members would perform as the backup dancers to Powell’s faded front-man persona.

The show will also feature Local artist, Tyrone “DJ Bizzon” Miller, who will perform live in an improvised conversation between sound and movement, directed by Danceworks’ Joelle Worm and featuring hip-hop guest artists alongside the company. And Kuepper revisits a work from the past, …in the night, set to remixed Mussorgsky.

April 24-26 & May 8-10, Danceworks Studio Theatre, 1661 N. Water St.  $25 for reserved seats, $20 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors. call the Danceworks box office at (414) 277-8480, ext. 6025, or the  website, www.danceworksmke.org.
