Milwaukee’s First Bike-sharing Station
A demonstration bike-sharing station will open on July 1st at Discovery World.
On Friday we reported that a demonstration bike-sharing station was going be installed at Discovery World in the near future. That future has arrived. The B-Cycle station is now being installed and if all goes as planned will open on Monday July 1. This 20 dock station is solar powered and will have 10 bikes in 2013 with an additional 10 to be added during the 2014 rollout. The station will allow the public to learn about bike-sharing, try out the bikes, and build awareness for the project.
Correction: The story originally stated the funding was from the City of Milwaukee Office of Environmental Sustainability, this was incorrect. OES’ involvement in the station according to Mainwood is only moral support for the bike-sharing project. The funds for this station have come out of the private contributions the organization has raised.

So I don’t understand something here. Do you rent them or are you required to use your credit/debit card to to get one?
@Rachael. Now this is just a demonstration station, a true bike-sharing system needs multiple stations to make it work, but this one will let you learn about the program… I’ve also added a link to how it works in Madison (same B-cycle system). http://madison.bcycle.com/About/HowItWorks.aspx
Will Milwaukee bikeshare have the same prices as Madison?

Awesome! I was hoping they’d do this in Milwaukee. Tons of people use them in Madison it seems.
The second station is sorely needed at the Internodal Station! I’m taking the train up for Summerfest tomorrow and returning on Sunday. I’d love to hop off the train, grab a bike, ride to the Discovery World station, drop it off, and walk into the festival.
@Bob Yes! No doubt the Intermodal Station should have a bike-sharing station and one with a lot of bikes at that… Hopefully, next year when the system really rollsout.
