Although spring hasn’t sprung in Wisconsin just yet, the fashion world is brimming with fabulous spring-inspired pieces and looks. From New York to L.A., bold colors and patterns are racing off the runways to melt away the snow and winter blues. Statement pieces are slowly making a comeback for spring, helping to bring a little more sunshine into our everyday routine. The fashion world is buzzing about a few key trends for spring, including neons, patterns, Lucite, and bold necklaces. These trends can easily be incorporated into your normal attire, instantly giving you a sunny, spring feeling.

A pop of neon can take your outfit from drab to brilliant. Neon pieces can be easily integrated with your current wardrobe to transform some of your most basic pieces. For instance, pairing a neon clutch with a simple gray tee and blue jeans kicks your traditional look up a notch, making it a bit more unexpected. If you’re feeling even more adventurous, try layering a chiffon neon top over a pair of faux leather leggings or black denim skinnies. The contrast of the black complements the neon without clashing, and keeps the focus on your brightest central piece.

Spring is the perfect time to bring fun prints back into your daily ensembles. Nontraditional patterns, such as beautiful bows, or traditional paisley prints, embody the laid-back vibe of springtime. My favorite pattern play for spring is gorgeous florals in a variety of bold colors and hues. I’ve been especially coveting floral pants paired with a simple, basic tee, or with a more edgy leather jacket. When incorporating prints with your outfits, make sure to pair lighter prints with light tones, and vice versa for dark prints, to ensure consistency with your outfit.

A less expected trend beginning to emerge is Lucite accessories for spring. Lucite is a lightweight, shatter-resistant plastic similar in appearance to glass, which makes it ideal when transformed into durable housewares or accessories. Lucite first emerged on the spring runways of designers such as Burberry, Givenchy, and Chanel, and more affordable versions and alternatives are beginning to become more widely available. Lucite clutches are one of my favorite trends this spring—they showcase the goodies in your purse that only you usually see.

Try this look –Try a Lucite (or another clear material) clutch with metal accents to add drama to your look. I love the neon and Lucite combination from Collective Habit.

Lastly, one of my favorite trends for spring is gorgeous statement necklaces, which impeccably accessorize your spring looks. Classic rhinestone stunners have been prevalent on and off the runways, especially in the form of oversized flowers in bright colors. J.Crew’s most recent jewelry collection is the epitome of spring fashion—elegant, fun, and surprisingly bold.

Try this look – J.Crew’s latest collection with Lulu Frost is a perfect balance of vintage appeal and springtime chic.

Fashionistas who gravitate towards more ethereal accessories can also layer their delicate necklaces for a different look. To create this boho-chic vibe, layer an odd number of necklaces and vary their lengths, colors and sizes. Pair these with basic layers, like a classic white tee, to draw attention to your unique necklaces paired together.

Try this look – Shop Kei Jewelry on Etsy—an affordable jewelry shop specializing in unique layering pieces—from raw amethyst crystals to refined gold charms.

Hopefully, these trends are more reassuring than the weather as an indication that spring is right around the corner! Think spring by integrating statement pieces with your key basics to give your outfit an unexpected twist. Remember: bright, patterned, statement pieces will help transition your wardrobe into spring, giving you more variety in your everyday looks.

I don’t know of many women who’d want the Lucite look, reminding criminals that they may have wallets in their purses, or exposing the contents of their purses to everyone!
