“Coming out” on the North Shore

Having grown up in the theatre, and having lived in New York and Los Angeles, being around people who are gay has never seemed strange to me. But now, living around Milwaukee’s there still a bit of a “20 years ago” feel on what it means to be gay.

For this week’s podcast, I talked with Nick Witte, who grew up in Bayside and went to Nicolet High School, and came out to his parents in 8th grade. Nick has now graduated high school and is going to college in Switzerland. We discussed some of the challenges he faced in high school and whether or not we, as a society, are moving in the right direction when it comes to acceptance.
