He said, She Said – A (non-traditional) Wedding Story, pt. 2
There’s a popular belief in American culture that every little girl dreams of a wedding day. This notion is exacerbated by bridal magazines and wedding-themed tv shows that scrutinize the event down to the last detail, obsessed with perfecting the fairy tale wedding brides-to-be had (supposedly) been waiting for their entire lives.
Kathy Bryja was not one of those little girls.
Much like her fiancé, last week’s guest Justin Shady, Kathy sees weddings — and contemporary culture’s obsession with them — as a consumer-driven racket, designed to squeeze every last dime out of your pockets in exchange for a fantasy that doesn’t exist. To each their own, of course, but the whole over-the-top, traditional ceremony just isn’t her style.
So how does a couple that never planned on getting married create a wedding that stays true to their principles? They break the rules.
