Dachshhund Dervy Germanfest Milwaukee

Germanfest Milwaukee May PrincessYou would think the men wearing shorts and brimmed hats were doing so to beat the summer heat on Sunday.  Then you notice they also have suspenders and lederhosen, and realize that you are at Milwaukee’s Germanfest. Maybe the delicious knackwurst in your stomach, washed down with a stein of doppelbock beer, was another clue.

If polka isn’t your thing (though it should be), there were dachshund derby races. The Summerfest grounds were also reichlich with cuckoo clocks, traditional wear and foods ranging geographically from Hamburg to Munchen.

Photo Editor Brian Jacobson took in the sights and downed a few slices of Bavarian cake along the way.  Enjoy our slideshow, and see all the photos at our flickr site here.
