When the snow falls and temperatures drop below freezing, our instincts tell us to stay indoors. A visit to the Urban Ecology Center, though, will change your perceptions about winter with loads of engaging outdoor activities. Take Saturday’s Winterfest at the UEC’s Washington Park center: a full day of sledding, snowshoeing, ice skating and even dog sled demonstrations. Due to icy conditions, though, the much-anticipated Icelandic ponies couldn’t make it, but it was a delightful afternoon nonetheless.

At 30 degrees and sunny, it was a rather “balmy” afternoon when TCD photo intern Nicole Peaslee headed to Washington Park to capture the day’s events.
