Léon Krier, born in Luxembourg, is an architect, architectural theorist, and urban planner.  From the late 1970s onwards, Krier has been one of the most influential neo-traditional architects and planners.  He is best known for his development of Poundbury village in Dorchester, UK for the Prince of Wales.  In campaigning for the reconstruction of the traditional “European” city model, he has had a great influence on the New Urbanism movement, especially in the United States.

Milwaukee Riverkeeper is co-sponsoring a special town hall forum on Clean Energy.

Come join us on Thursday, March 11 at 6 p.m. where a panel of experts will discuss how the Clean Energy Jobs bill will benefit the Greater Milwaukee area with green jobs, lower energy bills and a cleaner, healthier environment.

Plus, talk with local installers about rebates and incentives to improve energy efficiency or install renewable energy at your home or  business.

Speakers will include Dan Kohler, director of Wisconsin Environment; Steve Ostrenga, CEO of Helios USA; Dave Boetcher, IBEW Government Affairs Coordinator; and Sen. Jim Sullivan (5th district).

Carolynn Leaman’s, NEDC, presentation will outline Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and how cities can use them as a toolkit to frame or certify their green objectives/initiatives.  Governments have become more interested in ways to combine economic growth with good environmental stewardship.  As a result, harnessing ingenuity by the skillful design of environmental policies is a current challenge that they face.  Working together, wise government and inventive industry could be a formidable alliance for a healthier world.  EMS is helpful for companies in examining how their operations impact the environment and would require companies to state what they do, do what they state, and then evaluate their system.  Carolynn will also discuss eco-municipality/conservation communities, eco-industrial parks, and the key elements for successfully accomplishing eco-agenda for local authorities or municipalities/cities.

Carolynn is a sustainability consultant and strategic planner with professional credentials (NEDC) in economic development.  She spent four years with Milwaukee Economic Development Corp/DCD as the Officer of Industrial Land Development and Strategic Planning and was co-author of Milwaukee Mayor Barrett’s 2005 Green Team Report, specifically on ‘green collar jobs.’

Carolynn holds a B.S. Summa Cum Laude in Landscape Architecture from Purdue University; a Masters of Urban Design from Graduate School of Design, Harvard University; and a degree from London School of Economics in ‘International Business and the Environment.’  She also teaches at the university level and has twenty years of sustainable land development work.  Carolynn was the winner of The Business Journal’s inaugural Best Green Business Awards program in June 2009 to honor the top firms of environmental sustainability in Southeast Wisconsin.

The City Plan Commission (CPC) is the City’s official planning body established under State statute and is responsible for master planning activities. The CPC advises the Common Council on a variety of land development issues including zoning map changes, revisions in the zoning ordinance, subdivision approvals, business improvement districts, street and alley vacations, public land disposition and acquisition, new streets and the approval of development plans in certain overlay districts.

The Milwaukee County Committee on Economic & Community Development oversees the administration of federal, state and local housing programs in the county, including the Urban Community Development Block Grant Program.
