Spring has sprung

Harriet Patrick was reliving her childhood during the "Grown-Up Easter Egg Hunt."

After two, cool wintery days last week, it seems that spring has finally sprung in Milwaukee. And with temperatures in the low 60’s, the weather couldn’t have been any better for the first annual “Grown Up Easter Egg Hunt” at Cathedral Square Park yesterday. “We really wanted to do something fun for the people who live and work in downtown Milwaukee,” said Beth Nicols, executive director of Milwaukee Downtown. “It’s sort of a random act of kindness thing that we’ve been doing for many of the city’s holidays.” More than 1,500 eggs were scattered throughout the park, most filled with candy and gift certificates from McDonald’s. There were twenty “golden eggs” that had more grown-up gifts, including $1,200 in prizes from downtown salons and retailers. Some of the revelers simply opened the eggs and grabbed the goodies. But Harriet Patrick was there for the experience, not the gifts. “My father used to take me to the park as a little girl for the Easter egg hunt,” she said. “I’m here reliving my childhood. I don’t care if there isn’t anything in my eggs, I’m keeping these to remember the fun.”
