Committee Approves Land Sale

By - Jun 6th, 2008 04:06 pm

Resolution 080183 was brought forward to authorize a land sale of approximately 7.8 acres in the Menomonee Valley to Charter Wire for their future relocation. Charter Wire, which has been located in the Third Ward for the past seventy-two years, made the decision to move to the Menomonee Valley because their lease expires in 2009 and the Menomonee Valley offers a better opportunity for expansion. Charter Wire intends to build a 160,000 square feet facility that could grow to over 200,000 square feet. Not only does this re-location further the rebirth of the Menomonee Valley but it opens up a significant area of the Third Ward to re-development. This resolution was approved and will now go before the full Common Council.

Have you seen any plans for the development of the Charter Wire site or the south end of the Summerfest grounds? Last year, it was said that plans were being developed. This is a spectacularly big site and lends itself to some very exciting ideas.

I haven’t seen any plans yet but I really hope it includes putting the street back thru. I’ll start poking around though… thanks

Another reason inspiring the move I hear was the opposition the plant was receiving from the neighborhood when they would dump scrap metal late at night. That was what I heard from an employee about a year ago, not sure if that is true anymore. I would imagine the heavy industrial vs residential neighborhood mix was a little tough since the factory was there first.
